A recent study published in the Journal of EMDR Practice and Research http://Journal of EMDR Practice and Research, 10 (4). doi: 10.1891/1933-3196.10.4.275 indicates how well EMDR works for those with Panic Disorder with Agoraphobia.
These results indicate that effective, lengthy preparation of the client, tackling recent events and current triggers before moving on and addressing historical traumas was very effective as a treatment model. In one particular case, panic attacks and its symptoms were significantly reduced after 17 sessions and were maintained for five years following treatment.
Investigators do not believe the resolution of current symptomology would have been as effective without including childhood traumas before terminating treatment.
